Australia Council is currently seeking submissions from those who wish to comment on the depiction of children in art. These submissions will be used to inform a set of protocols that The Australia Council is developing to address the depiction of children in artworks, exhibitions and publications that receive government funding.
The NAAE remains concerned that Arts, which includes visual art, dance, drama and music, are not included in the first phase of implementation of the new national curriculum, to take effect from 2010.

On 23 December 08 the federal government announced that it would support the recommendations in the Australian Law Reform Commission report Fighting Words: A Review of Sedition Laws in Australia (ALRC 104, 2006).
The ALRC made 27 recommendations for reform of the law in this area, and the Government accepted 25 of these unconditionally and two of them ‘in principle’.
The Australian Copyright Council has prepared a briefing document that outlines key issues regarding the Resale Royalty Right for Visual Artists Bill 2008. The paper includes information on why a coalition of organizations, including NAVA, does not support the current draft of the Bill. This group will be making a submission to the House of Representatives Committee inquiry.
The Australia Council for the Arts and Department for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts have released the draft of the Australian Indigenous Art Commercial Code of Conduct for public comment today.

The whole arts sector is expressing its extreme disappointment with compromised Resale Royalty legislation which was introduced into the House of Representatives on Thursday November 27th by Arts Minister Peter Garrett. There have been intense complaints about the model and it has been referred for inquiry and report to the Standing Committee on Climate Change, Water, Environment and the Arts.
