Daniel Savage

Daniel Savage is a Canberra based disability activist and artist working primarily in photography, video and performance. His practice is concerned broadly with perception – investigating the way our perceptions influence and affect our interactions with art, each other and the physical world.

His work is often self-referential, exploring his individual experience of disability as a point of difference to engage audiences in exploring and reassessing established ideas and preconceptions that exist within society.

In the near future, Daniel will be presenting new performance work alongside other disabled artists as part of Firstdraft’s 2021 Program, and will continue to explore how new digital technologies can shape arts access and engagement.

In recent years Daniel has also developed a curatorial practice, organising a number of major festivals and exhibitions including PLATFORM Live 2020, and F L U X - contemporary digital art at Belconnen Arts Centre, focusing on championing contemporary artworks by artists with disability.

Daniel has exhibited throughout Australia and regularly presents on both his own work and Disability arts at major conferences. He has undertaken residencies locally and internationally including as part of the Unlimited disability arts conference in the UK.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (honours 1st class) Majoring in Photography and Digital arts, Australian National University, School of Art.
