Workforce Australia: Mutual obligation requirements for Visual and Creative Artists

Online information session hosted by NAVA & DEWR on how artists and arts workers can meet mutual obligation requirements through professional arts activities, 1-2pm AEST, Thursday 5 December 2024.

Join the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) for a free online information session to help artists and arts workers navigate mutual obligation requirements under Workforce Australia’s Points Based Activation System (PBAS). The Department of Social Services will also be in attendance to discuss the income testing rules.

If you’re a freelancer or part-time arts worker receiving JobSeeker or other unemployment payments, you can now earn PBAS points through professional arts activities like applying for grants, submitting exhibition proposals, volunteering, or meeting with curators.

In this session, you’ll:

  • Learn how professional arts activities count towards expanded mutual obligations.
  • Explore the resources available, including Workforce Australia’s fact sheet offering practical guidance for creatives.
  • Share your experiences and challenges accessing income support directly with Workforce Australia representatives.

This session is open to all artists and arts workers, including NAVA Members and non-Members, across all art forms. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to align your professional arts activities with PBAS requirements while contributing to ongoing advocacy for better conditions for artists.
