Federal Arts Budget Changes
In the 2015 Federal Budget, there was an announcement by the Government of proposed cuts to the Australia Council's budget to establish a new parallel program called the National Programme for Excellence in the Arts.
The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) is working with other peak arts organisations to draft a joint response in the form of an open letter.
Our key concerns are:
- the lack of researched evidence for the change
- going against the principles of arm's length funding and peer assessment
- the administrative duplication and waste of taxpayer's money in setting up a parallel structure.
We are intending for this letter to be available for anyone to sign later this week.
Update: You can now send the open letter to Senator Brandis digitally here through our online campaign
