The peak body protecting and promoting the Australian visual arts sector

From the archives

For this month’s edition of Art Wires, we dug into NAVA’s archives on the issue of industrial representation for visual artists.

NAVA was fortunate to have Stephen Cassidy, former Arts Officer of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), as Acting Director of NAVA in the early 1990s. His expertise informed our position on the debate about the unionisation of visual artists in Australia at that time. He identified the issues at a forum on Visual Artists and Unions at the Queensland Art Gallery in July 1991.
