As communities across Queensland and New South Wales face devastating flooding from Tropical Cyclone Alfred, we are thinking of all those impacted—particularly NAVA Members in affected areas. The current crisis is reminiscent of the 2022 floods, with emergency warnings in place and communities preparing for rising waters once again. Our thoughts are with artists, arts workers, and the many small creative businesses navigating this disaster.
Extreme weather events like these remind us of the precarity that so many in the arts sector already experience. When studios, materials, and artworks are lost to flooding, recovery can be slow and financially devastating. The resilience of artists is extraordinary, but practical support is needed to rebuild.
