Exhibition: Excess All Areas

Excess All Areas explores consumer culture and throw-away society with humour and a lot of colour.

With the familiar colours and visual branding of advertising, the New Quotidian Collective investigates what happens when economic growth is framed as the dominant purpose of society. Everyday we move through a pervasive torrent of persuasive images instructing us what to desire, what to buy and what will finally make our lives feel complete. Short-lived products fuel endless cycles of waste that leave toxic residues lingering in landscapes, oceans and our bodies.

The artists resist this logic by reclaiming the everyday through slow, deliberate practices like walking and taking public transport to explore urban environments littered with consumer waste. The abundance of found objects provide inspiration, imagery and materiality for the practice.
