NSW Aboriginal visual arts practitioners to be heard

NAVA and Create NSW are hosting four Zoom workshops to amplify the voices of the NSW Aboriginal visual arts sector to the Indigenous Visual Arts Action Plan consultation, 1 - 10 December 2020.

In September 2020, the Federal Government released a Consultation Paper and is calling for submissions to a national Indigenous Visual Arts Action Plan to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and their cultural and economic interests.

It is vital that the Action Plan is based on the views of the Indigenous visual arts sector across the continent. Without an existing NSW peak body for First Nations arts (unlike other states) the NSW based arts sector risks being underrepresented during the consultation.

In collaboration with Create NSW, NAVA is hosting four Zoom workshops to boost submissions from the NSW Aboriginal visual arts sector before the 18 December 2020 deadline. Let’s ensure that the voices of stakeholders across the NSW Aboriginal visual arts sector are highly visible in the national conversation about Indigenous arts.

These open sessions will discuss the benefits of telling your stories and everyday experiences in a written submission. You will be provided with the skills and tools to have your say on what’s needed for a stronger future for Indigenous visual art. You may choose to write your own submission or team up with friends and colleagues to write a joint submission.

Who can attend?

NSW Aboriginal visual arts practitioners to be heard workshop series is for anyone involved with the NSW Aboriginal visual arts sector: artists, arts workers, art centre directors and managers, art dealers, gallerists, art market professionals, purchasers, collectors, or industry bodies. While the focus is on NSW, this program is open to all individual practitioners across the continent.

Our four Zoom information sessions are centred on the four focus areas of the Consultation Paper.
